The Making of a Cowboy by K Henderson

The Making of a Cowboy ,Giclee Print on Matte Paper

This Trompe L’Oeil oil painting is all about our favorite cowboy, Howdy Doody. With his patent, and accessories you can see how to make a cowboy. What cowboy is complete without his badge, handkerchief, garters, boots and plaid shirt? He is shown hanging from a rustic wood panel . Howdy was the first tv character to have a copyright. This painting has been shown in several juried exhibits winning awards each time.

This 23” x 17” (approximate image area)  print is on high-grade Epson Enhanced Matte paper for the price of $175 plus $10 shipping/handling, a total of $185. Other sizes available. What is a Giclee Print? What is a Giclee Print? Giclée (/ʒiːˈkleɪ/ zhee-KLAY or /dʒiːˈkleɪ/) is a neologism coined in 1991 by printmaker Jack Duganne for fine art digital prints made on inkjet printers. The name originally applied to fine art prints created on IRIS printers in a process invented in the late 1980s but has since come to mean any inkjet print

Music box by K henderson
Music Box, 10 x 8, oil on cradled board

I love vintage tin wind-up toys. This cheery little big was begging to be painting. He looks ready to great the spring day emerging from the cigar box into the morning light.

This is from my continuing series ‘Toys in a Box’

Red Globe II – K. Henderson Still Life

October 28, 2015
Red Globe II
Red Globe II, oil on linen, 30 x 30

Stripes and silver and red: My favorites! I’ve been working on this painting, off and on, for a while now and I’m pleased with the results.

The still life had a brass goblet which you don’t see. The gold reflections still remain in the bowl adding additional color and design.

Blue Vase and Silk

October 20, 2015
Blue Vase and Silk by K Henderson
Blue Vase and Silk is 30″ x 30″ oil on canvas.

This painting took FOREVER to complete. I started it with a grisalle underpainting  (a black and white painting) and then applied layers and layers of color to the vase, each layer having to dry before the next layer was applied.
Many challenges in this painting. I had to paint the blue vase plus the fabric behind the vase  and the reflections in the vase.
And the silk! My favorite fabric. It seems to capture and reflect all the colors of the rainbow.
I can’t wait to do another painting like this

Buck Rogers Books

Buck Rogers Books by K Henderson
Buck Rogers Books, 36 x 30, oil on cradled board, detail

I love books. I collect books. I have lots of books. Oddly enough, I rarely have books in my paintings.

As a first step in remedying the situation I gathered up my Buck Rogers Big Little Books for this painting.

Buck Rogers first appeared in Phil Nowlan’s science fiction tale titled Armageddon—2419, published in Amazing Stories in August of 1928. The Big Little Books were published between 1933 – 1943.
