This is another painting in my Stripes series. It features vintage cranberry glass and a silver bowl. And, of course, black and white striped fabric

I love vintage tin wind-up toys. This cheery little big was begging to be painting. He looks ready to great the spring day emerging from the cigar box into the morning light.
This is from my continuing series ‘Toys in a Box’

I had a great time painting this photorealism still life. The striped background with the red and green striped candy and glass atlas jars along with their reflections was a wonderful challenge. I’m pleased with the results.

Stripes and silver and red: My favorites! I’ve been working on this painting, off and on, for a while now and I’m pleased with the results.
The still life had a brass goblet which you don’t see. The gold reflections still remain in the bowl adding additional color and design.

Hopping Crow, 10 x 8, oil on board
I wanted to take a break from my larger work and paint something small and fun. This little fellow is a tin wind-up toy from my vintage toy collection. I hope to use him in a larger painting soon.

Strawberry Reflections, 30 x 30, oil on linen
I started this painting several months ago at the height of Strawberry Season. Its a pleasure to put the finishing touches on the canvas now that it is autumn and the strawberries are just a delicious memory.

Mine is a Long and Sad Tale is oil on canvas, 12 x 16.
Those words were spoken by the Mouse in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland in 1865. This book has never been out of print since that time.
As many of you know I’m a huge fan of Alice in Wonderland. I’ve collected over 300 copies of this book, many with different illustrators. Yes, those are copies of the book in the painting (well, actually on of them is Through the Looking Glass). Since the book was written during the Victorian Era I wanted to give the painting a Victorian feel.
You can see the Mouse has arrived after someone has extinguished the oil lamp and put her glasses down after spending an evening reading. The reader has stopped on the page featuring the Long and Sad tale which is written to resemble the shape of a tail.

The mouse was created by Steve Worthington
I’ve created a similar painting to this and I enjoyed painting it so I decided to revisit the subject. These are some vintage toys from my collection. Wooden Blocks, spinning tops, playing cards, chess, and marbles are all toys or games that have been played with by many generations of children.

Glass, Marbles and Reflections: these are three of my favorite subjects to paint. The aqua ball jar is back in the studio and will appear in a new painting soon
