A Gathering of Nations – American indian Still life

March 28, 2010

A Gathering of Nations, oil on linen, 18 x 24.

I chose this title for the painting because all of the objects in the still life are from different tribes of American Indians. The leggings are a pair I have had for many years. They were made by Kiowa artist Richard Aitson.

Boots – Western Still Life

March 20, 2010

I’m taking a break from my American Indian paintings (see My Other Blog) to do a few still lifes.

Boots is 18 x 24, oil on linen.I used a limited palette on this painting: black ,white, raw umber, and raw sienna with just a touch of red in the center of the basket.

The title, Boots, is just a working title. If you have a title suggestion please let me know.

Alice in Wonderland – still life

March 8, 2010

I’m a BIG fan of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. I have over 300 copies of that book with many different illustrators.

I’ve been wanting to do a painting based on the book for quite some time. A Mad Tea Party is my favorite chapter so that is what inspired this still life. “It’s Always 6 O’clock” is oil on canvas, 24 x 30.

I’ve used this battenburg lace in several of my paintings and I think I’m finally figuring out how to paint it
