Last of the Mohicans

May 7, 2012

Last of the Mohicans, 9 x 12, oil on panel

Every once in a while I fall into the bad habit of starting paintings. Lots of them. Currently, I have about 10 paintings in progress. The good news is that I will have 10 new paintings to share within the next few weeks. The ‘bad’ news is that I haven’t posted any new work for a while .

So, I thought we could revisit a (not so old) friend, The Last of the Mohicans. As we all know I love old books, toys and other fun things. The vintage American Indian ceramic figurines are part of my collection and make me smile every time I look at them. And these books have an average age of 100 years. Yes, Last of the Mohicans is one of them.

Happy Valentines Day!

Cordial Cherry, 9 x 12, oil on board, framed

Happy Valentines Day!

Who doesn’t like to get chocolates for valentines day? And this one has no calories and will last forever.

A sweet red cherry and sticky cordial cream covered by smooth milk chocolate. I don’t know if I wanted to simply capture the beauty of the cordial cherry or if I was just looking for an excuse to buy myself a box of chocolates! Yum!

Gumballs and Crystals – still life

November 27, 2010

Gumballs and Crystal study, 6 x 6, oil on cradled board

I don’t usually paint this small but I’m fascinated by artists that do. I thought I would give it a try and do a study for a larger painting. I’m glad I did because I’ve decided to change the lighting for the Big Painting. But this was fun.

Sunflowers – Work in Progress

Hubbard Museum’s Biennale Grande

December 22, 2009

My painting Redwing has been accepted into the Hubbard Museum’s Biennale Grande exhibition. The Biennale Grande is a juried fine arts competition that seeks to recognize and honor excellence in the contemporary visual arts of the American West.

R.D. and Joan Dale Hubbard founded the Hubbard Museum of the American West in 1992, then presented it to the City of Ruidoso Downs, NM in 2005. It has grown from its original incredible collection of Anne C. Stradling’s Museum of the Horse to being a truly first class historic Western museum.

The Biennale Grande exhibit will be on display Jan 30 – April 11, 2010

Wholly Cow – demonstration- oil painting

April 17, 2009

cow-day-21

I’ve decide to show this demonstration focusing on the ceramic cow. This is what it looks like at the end of the second day. I’ve painted it a pale gray and started to add the shadows. I can still see the line drawing underneath. The blocks have the basic light and shadow and the marbles are painted white

April 8, 2009

cherry-cake

I love painting food! This is my first ‘cake’ painting. Cherry Cake is 9 x 12, oil on board. It is a layer cake with marachino cherries on a white plate and a linen napkin.
